Henrique Golland Trindade

Henrique Hector Golland Trindade , OFM (born May 27, 1897 in Porto Alegre , Brazil ; † November 6, 1974 in Botucatu , Brazil) was a Brazilian Roman Catholic religious and from 1941 to 1948 Bishop of Bonfim and from 1948 to 1968 Bishop and first Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Botucatu .

Life

Born as Hector Trindade in Porto Alegre, he entered the Franciscan order in Rio Grande do Sul in 1922 . He took the religious name Henrique Trindade . He was ordained priest on December 18, 1926 in Petrópolis by Agostinho Francisco Benassi , Archbishop of Niterói . After his ordination he worked as a priest, teacher and editor of several magazines.

On March 29, 1941, Pope Pius XII appointed him . to the Bishop of Bonfim . At that time Henrique Golland Trindade was living in a monastery in Ipanema , near his home town of Porto Alegre. He was ordained episcopate on June 8th of the same year by the Archbishop of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro , Cardinal Sebastião Leme da Silveira Cintra . Co- consecrators were the old bishop of Espírito Santo , Benedito Paulo Alves de Souza , and the bishop of Campanha , Inocêncio Engelke . The inauguration took place in the Diocese of Bonfim on August 15 of that year. He chose the motto Sursum Corda ("The hearts aloft").

In the diocese he promoted Catholic action and gave important religious impulses. He brought the Marists into the diocese. He reformed the episcopal residence and had a chapel built for Francis of Assisi .

On May 15, 1948, Pope Pius XII transferred him the diocese of Botucatu . The inauguration took place on August 15 of the same year. As a bishop he had the seminary expanded and a retreat house set up in the diocese. He also had several chapels built. He promoted the settlement of the Hardehausen-Itatinga monastery (1951) and founded with his sister Henrietta Trinity on September 15, 1952 the Order of the Servants of the Lord (Congregação das Irmãs Servas do Senhor).

On April 19, 1958, the diocese was elevated to an archbishopric and Trindade was appointed its first archbishop. As archbishop he founded the orphanage Holy Family (vila dos Meninos Sagrada Família) in Botucatu.

Henrique Golland Trindade took part in the Second Vatican Council as a council father and was one of the first to sign the voluntary commitment to a modest lifestyle and service to the poor, known as the Catacomb Pact. He sponsored the renovation of the Cathedral of St. Anne of Botucatu , which was completed in 1964 . In 1965, according to the papal decree, the Apostolic Nuncio , Archbishop Sebastiano Baggio , raised it to the status of a minor basilica .

Pope Paul VI accepted on March 27, 1968 his renunciation of the Archdiocese of Botucatu and appointed him titular Archbishop of Lilybaeum . Due to the changed allocation practice of the Holy See , he renounced the titular seat on March 16, 1971. He died on December 6, 1974 in Botucatu. He was buried in the Botucatu Cathedral.
