Hugo Bressane de Araújo

Hugo Bressane de Araújo (born September 4, 1899 in Machado , Minas Gerais , † June 9, 1988 ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Marília .

Life

Hugo Bressane de Araújo received on 11 February 1923, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope Pius XI appointed him on December 19, 1935 as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Bonfim . The Archbishop of Mariana , Helvécio Gomes de Oliveira SDB , donated him episcopal ordination on February 16 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Pouso Alegre , Octávio Augusto Chagas de Miranda , and the Bishop of Campanha , Inocêncio Engelke, OFM .

On September 19, 1940, Pope Pius XII appointed him . to the Bishop of Guaxupé . On September 3, 1951, he was appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Belo Horizonte and Titular Archbishop of Cotrada .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on October 7, 1954 as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Marília while retaining the personal title of archbishop.

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

Pope Paul VI accepted his age-related resignation on April 23, 1975.
