The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Natal ( lat. : Archidioecesis natalensis ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Natal in the state of Rio Grande do Norte .

history

The Diocese of Natal was established on December 29, 1909 by Pope Pius X. from cession of territory from the Diocese of Paraíba and subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia as a suffragan diocese. On December 5, 1910, the Diocese of Natal was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Olinda e Recife as a suffragan. The diocese of Natal was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Paraíba as a suffragan on February 6, 1914. On July 28, 1934, the Diocese of Natal gave up parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Mossoró . Another cession took place on November 25, 1939 to found the diocese Caicó .

On February 16, 1952, the Diocese of Natal was raised to an archdiocese.
