Sjöberg began his international career starting at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley . There he reached the 45th place from the normal hill. Despite the only mediocre success, he was firmly integrated into the Swedish squad in the following season and jumped his first jumping on December 30, 1960 in Oberstdorf as part of the Four Hills Tournament 1960/61 . He was also able to climb the podium for the first time with 2nd place. In Garmisch-Partenkirchen he again jumped into the top ten and ended up sixth. After two more good placements in Bischofshofen and Innsbruck , he finished the tour in 6th place in the overall ranking. At the Four Hills Tournament in 1961/62 he also jumped into the top ten in the first two competitions in Oberstdorf and Innsbruck, but missed a place in the overall standings after poor placements in the other two competitions. A short time later, however, he was able to secure the Swedish championship title on the normal hill. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 he reached 5th place on the large hill and 33rd place on the normal hill. In 1966 he won the Swedish championship again. Shortly thereafter, Sjöberg started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 . There he jumped from the normal hill to 6th place and won the bronze medal on the large hill behind Bjørn Wirkola and Takashi Fujisawa . On February 10, 1967, Sjöberg improved the ski flying world record set by the Norwegian Lars Grini on the Heini-Klopfer ski flying hill in Oberstdorf by one meter to 148 m. However, the record was only one day before the Norwegian broke it again. Sjöberg ended his active ski jumping career when he started at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble . There he was able to reach 53rd place from the large hill with jumps of 85.5 and 73.0 m.
