Lars Grini (born June 29, 1944 in Gran ) is a former Norwegian ski jumper .

Career

Grini, who initially started for the club Søndre Ål Sportsklubb and later for Lyn IL , started ski jumping on Flaagenbakken in his hometown Gran. He made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1965/66 . After an 80th place in Oberstdorf and a 62nd place in Innsbruck , he reached 24th place in Bischofshofen and thus 71st place overall at the end of the tour. After he did not take part in the tour the following year and won the silver medal on the normal hill behind Bent Tomtum at the Norwegian Championships in Voss in 1967 , he reached the podium at the Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf in 1967/68 and ended up second behind Dieter Neuendorf . He was surprisingly ahead of his previously dominant compatriot Bjørn Wirkola . In Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Innsbruck he was able to convince again with places six and seven. In Oberstdorf, Grini succeeded as the first ski jumper to surpass the 150 meter mark, which at the time was synonymous with the ski jumping world record . He had already set it up the day before with 147 m in Oberstdorf, but was outbid by Kjell Sjöberg on the same day by one meter.

At the 1968 Olympic Games in Grenoble , which were also classified as the Nordic World Ski Championships , Grini won the bronze medal on the large hill. From the normal hill he came in 13th. A short time after the games, he again managed to win the silver medal at the Norwegian Championships on the normal hill. At the Four Hills Tournament in 1968/69 he started weakly with 69th place in Oberstdorf, but was able to fight his way back to the top of the world within a very short time and just missed the podium in Innsbruck with fourth place, which he did with third place in Bischofshofen reached shortly afterwards. In the end, it was enough for ninth place in the overall standings.

He started the Four Hills Tournament 1969/70 with two fourth places in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, but could not build on this performance in Innsbruck and was then suspended in Bischofshofen. In the end, like in 1965/66, he was 71st overall. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Štrbské Pleso he won the bronze medal on the normal hill again, like two years earlier. A few weeks after the World Cup, he won his first national championship title at the Norwegian Championship in Trondheim in 1970 .

In his last Four Hills Tournament in 1971/72 he was able to reach 35th place in the overall ranking after only mediocre placements.

At the Norwegian Championships in Fåvang in 1973 he won his second national title on the normal hill in front of Frithjof Prydz and Bent Tomtum . A year later he won the large hill title in Meldal . It was his last national success.
