The Archdiocese of Florianópolis ( Latin Archidioecesis Florianopolitana , Portuguese Arquidiocese de Florianópolis ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Florianópolis in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina .

history

Pope Pius X established the diocese of Florianópolis, which was also known as the diocese of Santa Catarina, on March 19, 1908 from parts of the territory of the diocese of Curitiba and subordinated it to the archbishopric of Porto Alegre as a suffragan . On May 3 of the same year, the Pope appointed Johannes Baptist Becker from Germany as the first bishop . On January 17, 1927, Pope Pius XI. the diocese to the archbishopric and metropolitan seat .
