The diocese of Chapecó ( Latin Dioecesis Xapecoënsis , Portuguese Diocese de Chapecó ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in the Brazilian city of Chapecó (state of Santa Catarina ).

history

Pope Pius XII established the diocese on January 14, 1958 from cessions of territory by the diocese of Lages and the territorial prelature of Palma . Pope John XXIII appointed the first bishop . the following year José Thurler .

1975 territorial shares for the establishment of the Diocese of Joaçaba were assigned.
