The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Pelotas ( Latin Archidioecesis Pelotensis , Portuguese Arquidiocese de Pelotas ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Pelotas in the state of Rio Grande do Sul .
history
The diocese of Pelotas was established on August 10, 1910 by Pope Pius X with the Apostolic Constitution Praedecessorum Nostrorum from territorial cessions of the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre and subordinated to this as a suffragan . On June 25, 1960, the diocese of Pelotas gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Bagé . Another assignment of territory took place on May 27, 1971 to establish the diocese of Rio Grande .
On April 13, 2011 it was by Pope Benedict XVI. raised to the archbishopric with the seat of a metropolitan .
