history

The diocese of Rio Grande was on May 27, 1971 by Pope Paul VI. Erected with the Apostolic Constitution Cum Christ from cessions of territory from the diocese of Pelotas and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre as a suffragan .
