José Mário Stroeher (born March 19, 1939 in Feliz ) is a Brazilian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Rio Grande .

Life

José Mário Stroeher was ordained a priest on December 21, 1963 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Porto Alegre and titular bishop of Nicives on March 25, 1983 . He was ordained episcopate on June 24th of the same year by the Archbishop of Porto Alegre, João Cláudio Colling ; Co- consecrators were Alfredo Vicente Cardinal Scherer , Senior Archbishop of Porto Alegre, and José Ivo Lorscheiter , Bishop of Santa Maria . His motto is VOSSO É O REINO DE DEUS .

On August 8, 1986, he was appointed Bishop of Rio Grande .

On February 17, 2016, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
