Ricardo Hoepers (born December 16, 1970 in Curitiba , Brazil ) is a Brazilian clergyman, moral theologian, bioethicist and Roman Catholic bishop of Rio Grande .

Life

Ricardo Hoepers, the third of four children, entered the seminary of the archdiocese of São José in 1985, where he graduated from high school. After a preparatory course , he left the seminary in 1990 and studied philosophy at the Universidade Federal do Paraná . In 1995 he returned to the seminary "Rainha dos Apóstolos" and studied theology at the Studium Theologicum . From 1997 to 1998 he also completed postgraduate studies in bioethics at the Centro Universitário São Camilo in São Paulo. He then taught bioethics at the Escola de Enfermagem Catarina Labouré in Curitiba. on April 19, 1998 he was ordained deacon by Pedro Antônio Marchetti Fedalto , Archbishop of Curitiba, who also donated him the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Curitiba on January 31, 1999 . After pastoral work and various management tasks in the diocesan administration, he completed a master's degree in bioethics and a doctoral degree in moral theology at the Pontifical Alfonsian Academy in Rome between 2009 and 2014 . In 2004 he completed a master's degree in educational science at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná . Hoepers was a professor of moral theology at the seminary and Vicentina College.

On February 17, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Rio Grande. The Archbishop of Curitiba, José Antônio Peruzzo , donated him episcopal ordination on May 14th of the same year . Co-consecrators were the old archbishop of Curitiba, Pedro Antônio Marchetti Fedalto , and his predecessor in office José Mário Stroeher . The inauguration in the diocese of Rio Grande took place on June 3, 2016.
