Antônio de Almeida Lustosa SDB (born February 11, 1886 in São João del Rei , Brazil , † August 14, 1974 in Carpina , Pernambuco ) was a Roman Catholic religious and archbishop of Fortaleza .

Life

On 29 January 1905 he joined the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco and received on 28 January 1912 in Taubaté by Bishop Epaminondas Nunes de Ávila e Silva , the ordination . He taught philosophy and Catholic theology . He was also temporarily novice master , director and vicar .

On July 4, 1924, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Uberaba . He was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Mariana , Helvécio Gomes de Oliveira SDB, on February 11, 1925 in São João del Rei ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Goiás , Emanuel Gomes de Oliveira SDB, and the Bishop of Espírito Santo , Benedito Paulo Alves de Sousa .

On December 17, 1928, Pope Pius XI appointed him. to the Bishop of Corumbá . On July 10, 1931, Pope Pius XI finally appointed him. to the Archbishop of Belém do Pará . Eventually he was promoted by Pope Pius XII. on July 19, 1941 transferred again, namely to the Archbishop of Fortaleza . He took office on November 5, 1941. As Archbishop of Fortaleza, he took part in the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB) in 1952. He also founded the Congregation of Irmãs Josefinas .

He took part in the preparatory phase of the Second Vatican Council and in the first council period (October to December 1962). On February 16, 1963, Pope John XXIII. his application for emeritus status and appointed him titular archbishop of Velebusdus . He died at the age of 88 in the Salesian home in Carpina , Pernambuco . His remains are in Fortaleza Cathedral . He left behind numerous literary and scientific works. In 1993 the Archdiocese of Fortaleza initiated the beatification process . On May 2, 2003, the diocesan acts were declared valid.
