José Maurício da Rocha

José Maurício da Rocha (born June 18, 1885 in Lagoa da Canoa , Alagoas , Brazil , † November 24, 1969 in Bragança Paulista , Brazil) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Bragança Paulista .

Life

José Maurício da Rocha studied at the seminary of Olinda and was ordained a priest for the diocese of Alagôas on June 29, 1908 .

On March 10, 1919 Pope Benedict XV appointed him . to the Bishop of Corumbá . He received his episcopal ordination on July 20th of the same year by the Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia and Primate of Brazil, Jerônimo Tomé da Silva . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Maceió , Manuel Antônio de Oliveira Lopes , and the Bishop of Penedo , Jonas de Araújo Batinga .

On February 4, 1927 he was appointed the first bishop of Bragança Paulista and on June 19, 1927 he was introduced to the office.

As a Council Father, he took part in the first session of the Second Vatican Council .
