Bragança Paulista , officially Portuguese Município da Estância Climática de Bragança Paulista , is a city in the Brazilian state of São Paulo , about 70 kilometers north of the capital São Paulo .
The municipality, which was founded in 1856, had an estimated 166,753 inhabitants on July 1, 2018 on an area of 514 km², which results in a population density of 280 people per square kilometer. Bragança Paulista has had the status of a climatic health resort, an Estância climática , since 1964 . The community only gave itself the nickname Paulista in 1944 to differentiate itself from a community of the same name in the state of Pará .
The highest point in the municipality is the Pico do Lopo with 1700 meters. Bragança Paulista has a tropical mountain climate with an average temperature of 22 ° C. The average annual rainfall is 1600 mm.
The city's entertainment district is located on Lago Taboão , a lake in the middle of the city. Bragança Paulista is also known for its sausages.
The city's football club, CA Bragantino , became the national champions of São Paulo in 1990 and Brazil runners-up in 1991.
Diocese
The diocese of Bragança Paulista was founded on July 24, 1925 by Pope Pius XI. built. The episcopal church is the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Cathedral, completed in 1977 , which replaced a previous building from 1765 that had been modified several times.
