The Diocese of Marabá ( Latin Dioecesis Marabensis , Portuguese Diocese de Marabá ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Marabá in the state of Pará .

history

The diocese of Marabá was established on July 18, 1911 by Pope Pius X from cession of territory from the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará as the territorial prelature of Santíssima Conceição do Araguaia . The territorial prelature was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Belém do Pará as a suffragan . On August 16, 1934, the territorial prelature Santíssima Conceição do Araguaia gave up parts of their territory to establish the territorial prelature Xingu . Another assignment of territory took place on May 13, 1969 to establish the territorial prelature of São Félix . The Territorial Prelature Santíssima Conceição do Araguaia changed its name to Territorial Prelature Marabá on December 20, 1969 . On March 27, 1976, the Territorial Prelature Marabá gave parts of their territory to the establishment of the Territorial Prelature Santíssima Conceição do Araguaia .

On October 16, 1979, the Territorial Prelature Marabá was raised to the diocese by Pope John Paul II with the Papal Bull Cum Praelaturae .
