The territorial prelature São Félix was on May 13, 1969 by Pope Paul VI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Quo commodius from cessions of territory by the territorial prelatures Cristalândia , Registro do Araguaia and Santíssima Conceição do Araguaia and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Cuiabá as a suffragan .
