The diocese Guiratinga ( lat. : Dioecesis Guiratingensis ) was in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Guiratinga in the state of Mato Grosso , which was repealed on June 25, 2014.

history

Pope Pius X. founded the territorial prelature Registro do Araguaia on May 12, 1914 from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of Cuiabá , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan diocese.

On May 27, 1969, the Cathedra was moved from Registro do Araguaia to Guiratinga and took the name, Territorial Prelature Guiratinga. With the Bull Institutionis propositum she was raised to the diocese on October 3, 1981.

It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

On June 25, 2014, Pope Francis abolished the diocese and incorporated the territory into the dioceses of Rondonópolis-Guiratinga , Barra do Garças and Primavera do Leste-Paranatinga . The last bishop, Derek John Christopher Byrne SPS , was appointed first bishop of Primavera do Leste-Paranatinga on the same date. The name of the abolished diocese lives on through the renaming of the diocese of Rondonópolis-Guiratinga .

The diocese of Guiratinga comprised the parishes of Guiratinga , Alto Araguaia , Alto Taquari , Alto Garças , Araguainha , Dom Aquino , Ponte Branca , Poxoréo , Primavera do Leste , Ribeirãozinho , Tesouro , Torixoréu of the state of Mato Grosso.
