Sebastião Assis de Figueiredo OFM (born May 16, 1949 in Coxilha Rica in Santa Catarina , Brazil , † December 20, 2007 near Jaciara , Brazil) was Bishop of Guiratinga .

Life

Sebastião Assis de Figueiredo was born in Coxilha Rica in the diocese of Lages , in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. In 1963 he entered the Small Franciscan Seminary of Agudos (SP). On January 20, 1972, he entered the Franciscan Order. He studied philosophy in Curitiba and Catholic theology in Petrópolis . On October 4, 1975, he made perpetual vows in the Franciscan Order . He was ordained a priest on December 18, 1976 . After spending several years training in his province, he went to Mato Grosso as a missionary.

He was professor of philosophy at the faculty of the Centro Universitario da Grande Douradosvon in Dourados in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul , later rector and professor in the Franciscan seminary of Ituporanga and Rio Brilhante , lecturer at the University of Campo Grande and pastor of “São José Operário “In Dourados. At the beginning of 2000 he took over the parish "Sagrado Coração de Jesus" in the diocese of Rondonópolis and was provincial vicar of the Franciscans.

Pope John Paul II appointed Sebastião Assis de Figueiredo in 2001 as bishop of the Guiratinga diocese in the Archdiocese of Cuiabá, founded in 1981 . The episcopal ordination donated to him on 15 November 2001 in Rondonópolis Fernando Antônio Figueiredo , Bishop of Santo Amaro , and the co-consecrators Bonifácio Piccinini , Archbishop of Cuiabá, and Juventino Kestering , Bishop of Rondonópolis .

As chairman, he represented Region West 2 in the Brazilian Bishops' Conference (CNNB).

Sebastião Assis de Figueiredo died on December 20, 2007 in a car accident near Jaciara.
