Fernando Antônio Figueiredo OFM (born December 1, 1939 in Muzambinho , Minas Gerais , Brazil ) is a Brazilian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Santo Amaro .

Life

Fernando Antônio Figueiredo joined the Congregation of the Franciscan at and received on 16 December 1967, the priestly ordination .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Teófilo Otoni and titular bishop of Ulcinium on January 21, 1984 . He was ordained episcopal on March 10th of the same year by the Archbishop of São Paulo , Cardinal Paulo Evaristo Arns OFM; Co- consecrators were Geraldo Majela Reis , Archbishop of Diamantina , and Arnaldo Ribeiro , Auxiliary Bishop in Belo Horizonte . As a motto he chose A SERVIÇO DO EVANGELHO .

On November 12, 1984 he was appointed coadjutor bishop of Teófilo Otoni. With the resignation of Quirino Adolfo Schmitz OFM on August 3, 1985, he followed this in the office of Bishop of Teófilo Otoni. On March 15, 1989 he was appointed the first bishop of the diocese of Santo Amaro , which was established on the same date .

In 2009 he was elected to the Academia Paulista de Letras , Cadeira 36.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on December 2, 2015.
