The Diocese of Barra do Garças ( Latin : Dioecesis Barragartiensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Barra do Garças in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso .

The diocese includes the following parishes: Barra do Garças , Água Boa , Araguaiana , Araguainha , Canarana , Cocalinho , General Carneiro , Nova Nazaré , Nova Xavantina , Pontal do Araguaia , Ponte Branca , Ribeirãozinho and Torixoréu .

history

The diocese of Barra do Garças was founded on February 27, 1982 with the Apostolic Constitution Cum in pastorali munere by Pope John Paul II from the diocese of Guiratinga . On December 23, 1997, the diocese gave up part of its territory for the establishment of the Paranatinga territorial prelature .

It is now a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Cuiabá .
