Alano Maria Pena

Alano Maria Pena OP (born October 7, 1935 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic senior archbishop of Niterói .

Life

Alano Maria Pena joined the religious order of the Dominicans in, put on 8 March 1956, the profession , and received on 28 October 1961, the priestly ordination .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 7, 1975 auxiliary bishop in Belém do Pará and titular bishop of Vardimissa . The Archbishop of Belém do Pará, Alberto Gaudêncio Ramos , donated him episcopal ordination on July 14 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Alain du Noday OP, Bishop of Porto Nacional , and Estêvão Cardoso de Avellar OP, Coadjutor Prelate of Marabá .

On July 14, 1976, he was appointed coadjutor prelate of Marabá. With the resignation of Luís António Palha Teixeiras OP on November 10th of the same year, he succeeded him as prelate of Marabá. On May 26, 1978 he renounced his titular bishopric as part of the new allocation guidelines of the Roman Curia. Pope John Paul II elevated the territorial prelature to a diocese on December 4, 1979 , making him the first bishop of Marabá.

On July 11, 1985, he was appointed Bishop of Itapeva . He was appointed Bishop of Nova Friburgo on November 24, 1993 and was introduced to the office on January 23 of the following year. He was appointed Archbishop of Niterói on September 24, 2003 and was introduced to the office on November 23 of the same year.

On November 30, 2011, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation submitted by Alano Maria Pena for reasons of age.
