The Roman Catholic Diocese of São Carlos ( Latin Dioecesis Sancti Caroli in Brasilia , Portuguese Diocese of Sao Carlos ) is an in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese , based in São Carlos in the state of São Paulo .
history
The diocese of São Carlos was established on June 7, 1908 by Pope Pius X. with the Apostolic Constitution Dioecesium nimiam amplitudinem from the cession of territory from the Archdiocese of São Paulo as the diocese of São Carlos do Pinhal . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Paulo as a suffragan . On January 25, 1929, the diocese of São Carlos do Pinhal gave up parts of its territory to establish the dioceses of Jaboticabal and Rio Preto , established with the Apostolic Constitution Sollicitudo omnium ecclesiarum .
The diocese of São Carlos do Pinhal was renamed the Diocese of São Carlos on November 25, 1957 . On April 19, 1958, the diocese of São Carlos was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Campinas as a suffragan. The diocese of São Carlos gave up on February 9, 2000 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Catanduva .
