The Diocese of Sao Jose do Rio Preto ( lat. : Dioecesis Sancti Josephi Riopretensis ) is in São Paulo in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Sao Jose do Rio Preto .

history

Pope Pius XI founded it with the Apostolic Constitution Sollicitudo omnium on January 25, 1929 from cession of territory by the diocese of São Carlos do Pinhal and had it subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Paulo as a suffragan diocese.

It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

On April 19, 1958, it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto . On December 11, 2002, it took its current name.

On July 20, 2016, more than half of its territory and about a quarter of the Catholics gave up the establishment of the Votuporanga diocese .

The diocese of São José do Rio Preto includes the communities of São José do Rio Preto, Adolfo, Altair, Bady Bassitt, Bálsamo, Cedral, Guapiaçu, Icém, Ipiguá, Jaci, José Bonifácio, Mendonça, Mirassol, Mirassolândia, Monte Aprazível, Neves Paulista, Nipoã, Nova Aliança, Nova Granada, Onda Verde, Orindiúva, Palestina, Planalto, Poloni, Potirendaba, Ubarana and Uchoa of the state of São Paulo.
