history
The diocese was founded on January 16, 1960 by Pope John XXIII. Erected with the Apostolic Constitution In similitudinem Christi from cessions of territory from the Diocese of São José do Rio Preto and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto as a suffragan .
