Dadeus Grings

Dadeus Grings (born September 7, 1936 in Nova Petrópolis , Rio Grande do Sul ) is a Brazilian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Porto Alegre .

Life

After finishing school in Brazil, Grings studied Catholic theology . On December 23, 1961, he received the sacrament of ordination by Curia Archbishop Antonio Samorè .

On January 23, 1991, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of São João da Boa Vista . The episcopal ordination received his his predecessor, Bishop Tomás Vaquero , on March 15 the same year. Co- consecrators were the senior archbishop of Porto Alegre, Cardinal Alfredo Vicente Scherer , and the bishop of Santa Cruz do Sul , Aloísio Sinésio Bohn .

On April 12, 2000 he was appointed coadjutor archbishop of Porto Alegre. With the resignation of the Archbishop of Porto Alegre, Altamiro Rossato CSsR , on February 7, 2001, he succeeded him.

On September 18, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.

In addition to his episcopal activity, he appeared as an author of theological books.
