history

The diocese of Santa Cruz do Sul was on June 20, 1959 by Pope John XXIII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Quandoquidem Servatoris from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Porto Alegre and subordinated to this as a suffragan . On April 13, 2011, the diocese was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Santa Maria as a suffragan.
