The diocese of Votuporanga was established on July 20, 2016 by Pope Francis from assignments of the dioceses of São José do Rio Preto and Jales and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Ribeirão Preto as a suffragan diocese. First Bishop was Moacir Aparecido de Freitas .
