Joviano de Lima Júnior

Joviano de Lima Júnior SSS (born April 23, 1942 in Uberaba , Minas Gerais , Brazil ; † June 21, 2012 in Ribeirão Preto , state of São Paulo ) was a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Ribeirão Preto .

Life

Joviano de Lima Júnior joined the Order of the Eucharist in 1964 and studied philosophy at the Padre Machado Study Center (Centro de Estudos Padre Machado) in Belo Horizonte . After his profession in 1964, he studied Catholic theology at the Instituto de Filosofia e Teologia Paulo VI. in São Paulo , philosophy at the Universidade de Mogi das Cruzes and social sciences at the Faculdade Medianeira and liturgical studies at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome . He received in the Dec. 8, 1969 Uberaba the priesthood .

He was pastor in Uberaba and several other cities in Brazil ( Diocese of Santo André , Archdiocese of São Paulo ) and abroad ( Dublin , Cleveland and New York City ). For ten years he worked for his order in Asia (Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines) and Africa. He was pastor of St. Iphigenie in São Paulo, novice master and superior of his order and professor at the Pontifícia Faculdade de Teologia Nossa Senhora da Assunção in São Paulo. From 1987 to 1993 he was active in the religious service of the Eucharist . From 1993 to 1995 he was vicar general of the diocese of São Carlos .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of São Carlos on February 25, 1995 . As a motto he chose DEUS ESTÁ CONOSCO ( Isa 41,10  EU ). The episcopal ordination received his Curia Archbishop Geraldo Majella Agnelo of the same year on December 27; Co- consecrators were Constantino Amstalden , Bishop Emeritus of São Carlos, and Benedito de Ulhôa Vieira , Archbishop of Uberaba .

On April 5, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Archbishop of Ribeirão Preto .

Joviano de Lima Júnior held important positions in the Brazilian Bishops' Conference , such as delegate of the Pontifical Committee for the Eucharistic Congresses (2003-2009), President of the Commission for Pastoral Liturgy (2007-2011) and Chairman of the Commission for Liturgical Texts (2007-2011 ). He was chaplain of the secular institute Servitium Christi .

He wrote several books on liturgy and worked for various journals and magazines in Brazil, Italy and the USA.
