The Secular Institute Servitium Christi ( en . : Secular Institute Servitium Christi , de .: Säkularinstitut Diener Jesu Christi , pt . : Instituto Secular Servitium Christi , abbreviation: ISSC) forms, as an international institute of consecrated life within the Catholic religious family of the Congregation of the Most Holy Sacrament (SSS) , the third order . The spirituality is directed to the Blessed Sacrament and feels the Founder , Saint Peter Julian Eymard committed (1811-1868). The secular institute was founded in 1952 by the religious priest Bodfrey Spiekmann SSS .

history

The former Superior General (1949–1961) of the Eucharist Father Godfrey Spiekman SSS founded the first group on January 6, 1952 in The Hague . The Dutch Antoinette Golsteijn became the first matron chosen later followed her sister Han Bollen in this office. This fulfilled a wish of the founder of the order, who wanted members who could spread the tasks of the order in the middle of their lives. On March 29, 1963, the secular institute received episcopal recognition, and on May 8, 1963, it was recognized as a secular institute under papal law .

Life form

For all members Jesus Christ is the focus, so they celebrate Holy Mass every day , worship the Most Holy , perform the Liturgy of the Hours and devote their time to spiritual reading. Single and widowed women can join the community . They live in individual households or in small shared apartments and meet five to six times a year to look after the community. A multi-day meeting is held annually.

Every candidate does a voluntary service at the beginning and is introduced to the rules . After a period of three years they can take their first temporary vow according to the evangelical councils . Poverty, celibacy, and obedience now accompany them throughout life. This vow is repeated annually and ends after six years with the perpetual vow.

organization

The institute is organizationally divided into regions , each region is headed by a regional leader and a regional council. The community as a whole is represented by an elected Superior General and a General Council . There are offices in Holland , Germany , Brazil , Chile , Vietnam , the Philippines , the USA , Australia , Great Britain and Ireland .
