Eucharist
The Eucharist , also known as the Congregation of the Most Holy Sacrament - Societas Sanctissimi Sacramenti ( abbreviation : SSS ), are a Roman Catholic religious community that is particularly committed to the spread of a Eucharistic spirituality. It was founded in Paris in 1856 by Pierre Julien Eymard . Her motto is: "Your Eucharistic Kingdom come - Adveniat Regnum Tuum Eucharisticum ".
founding
The French religious priest Pierre Julien Eymard, who belonged to the Marist Order , was a great admirer of the Eucharist from childhood . On January 21, 1851, he had a vision in which the Blessed Mother complained that there was as yet no order devoted to the veneration of the sacrament of the altar above all else. Eymard understood this vision as a call to found a congregation in honor of the Eucharist.
On May 13, 1856, Eymard received permission from the Bishop of Paris to build a monastery for the new congregation in the French capital. But he soon had to close the religious house again and look for another domicile. The Eucharist in the early days lived extremely poor, so that many left Eymard again. Anastasius Hartmann , Vicar Apostolic of Bombay , was in Paris at the time and was there in the vicinity of St. Pierre Julien Eymard. Bishop Hartmann performed the first solemn exposure of the Sacrament of the Altar for adoration in the newly established religious house of the Eucharist on January 6, 1857 . In 1858 the order had 12 members. They were mainly active in the preparation of the Eucharist for both children and adults.
On June 3, 1863, the Eucharist by Pope Pius IX. recognized as a congregation . Since 1866, the order has looked after the church of Santi Claudio e Andrea dei Borgognoni in Rome. Two years later, on August 1, 1868, Eymard died. His long-time companion, Raimund de Cuers, succeeded him as superior of the congregation . Eugênio Barbosa Martins , SSS, Brazilian, has been Superior General of the Congregation since 2011 .
history
In 1895 Pope Leo XIII issued. the order the final approbation . The congregation first spread from France to various countries in Europe: including Belgium, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, and Spain. At the beginning of the 20th century, when many cardinals and bishops showed a growing interest in spreading Eucharistic piety , interest in the Eucharist also grew worldwide. First they were able to build a house in Montreal , from there they founded monasteries in the USA, so that in 1931 an independent American province was established. From the United States they went to Australia and the Philippines, and from there to India and Sri Lanka.
Today the Eucharist is spread on all five continents. The order has around 895 members worldwide. In Europe there are only two provinces (north with Germany) and south (with Austria).
activities
Eucharists are active in all forms of pastoral care, such as youth pastoral care, adult education, parish work and missions. The basis of their work is a Eucharistic spirituality, which in turn challenges the community within the order as well as in pastoral care to serve one's neighbor. A specific goal of her pastoral care is to promote understanding of the Eucharist. Eucharists want to show ways to an active, joyful and fruitful participation in the divine service.
