Benedito de Ulhôa Vieira

Benedito de Ulhôa Vieira (born October 9, 1920 in Mococa , † August 3, 2014 in Uberaba , Brazil ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Uberaba .

Life

Benedito de Ulhoa Vieira studied philosophy and theology at the seminary in Ipiranga , São Paulo and received on 8 December 1948 by Cardinal João Batista Costa , the ordination . In 1953 he became a doctor of theology doctorate . He later became Vicar General of the Archdiocese of São Paulo .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 29, 1971 auxiliary bishop in São Paulo and titular bishop of Bitettum . The Archbishop of São Paulo , Paulo Evaristo Arns OFM , donated him episcopal ordination on January 25 of the next year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in São Paulo, José Thurler and Lucas Moreira Neves OP .

On July 14, 1978, de Ulhôa Vieira was named Archbishop of Uberaba. From 1983 to 1987 he was Vice President of the Brazilian Bishops' Conference.

On February 28, 1996, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
