Alexandre Gonçalves do Amaral

Alexandre Gonçalves do Amaral (born June 12, 1906 in Carmo da Mata , Minas Gerais , † February 5, 2002 in Uberaba , Brazil ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Uberaba .

Life

Alexandre Gonçalves do Amaral received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Belo Horizonte on September 22, 1929 .

Pope Pius XII appointed him Bishop of Uberaba on August 5, 1939. The Archbishop of Belo Horizonte, Antônio dos Santos Cabral , donated him episcopal ordination on October 29 of the same year . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Aterrado , Manoel Nunes Coelho , and the Bishop of Campanha , Inocêncio Engelke, OFM .

With the elevation of the diocese to the archbishopric of Uberaba by Pope John XXIII. on April 14, 1962, he was named the first Archbishop of Uberaba. He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On July 14, 1978, Pope Paul VI. his early resignation.
