Aloísio Roque Oppermann

Aloísio Roque Oppermann SCI (born June 19, 1936 in São Vendelino , Rio Grande do Sul , † April 27, 2014 in Uberaba , Minas Gerais ) was a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Uberaba .

Life

Aloísio Roque Oppermann came from São Vendelino (Eng. St. Wendelin), a city that was settled in 1855 by Germans, Dutch and Swiss. He joined the Congregation of Dehonians at and studied philosophy in Brusque and Theology in Taubaté , where he on 29 June in 1961 by Francisco Borges do Amaral , the ordination received. He was the rector of the seminary as well as the Instituto dos Meninos de São Judas Tadeu and the Orfanato São Judas orphanage in São Paulo. He was a pastor in Curitiba and Varginha .

Pope John Paul II appointed him first bishop of Ituiutaba on January 22, 1983 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil , Archbishop Carlo Furno , donated him episcopal consecration on April 21, 1983 ; Co- consecrators were Alfredo Vicente Cardinal Scherer , Archbishop Emeritus of Porto Alegre , Benedito de Ulhôa Vieira , Archbishop of Uberaba, and Estêvão Cardoso de Avellar OP , Bishop of Uberlândia . As a motto he chose Christ Dominus .

On November 9, 1988, he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Campanha . When Aloísio Ariovaldo Amaral's CSsR retired on May 15, 1991, he succeeded him as Bishop of Campanha. On February 28, 1996, he was named Archbishop of Uberaba by John Paul II.

In the Brazilian Bishops' Conference he was the coordinator of the Eastern Liturgy for five terms and a member of the permanent council of the CNBB.

On March 7, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation put forward by Aloísio Roque Oppermann for reasons of age.

Aloísio Roque Oppermann was known for his commitment to social communication. He was one of the first to initiate a press office in his diocese. He was involved in radio and newspapers. He was present as a columnist and as the author of eight books.

He died suddenly and was buried in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Uberaba on April 28, 2014.
