The Tettnang Hop Trail is a four-kilometer educational trail on the subject of hops in the area of ​​the Baden-Württemberg town of Tettnang in the Lake Constance district in Germany .

Tettnang hops

The Tettnang aroma hops (lat. Humulus lupulus ), which belongs to the hemp family , originated in the Czech city ​​of Žatec (German Saaz ). It has been grown in Tettnang since 1844. The right-winding female plants grow up to 30 cm daily and reach a height of eight meters and reach an age of over fifty years. Their vegetation period lasts from April to September, with around 4,000 vines per hectare being grown on a total of 1,600 hectares (ha) of cultivation area. The annual production of green gold amounts to 40,000 to 50,000 quintals (2000 to 2500 tons ). The ingredients, fine essential oils and balanced bitter substances , are used worldwide for the production of beers . Around 2/3 of the Tettnang hops are exported, around 1/3 are destined for the German market.

Course of the hop path

From the Hop Museum in the Siggenweiler district , the Hop Trail runs along extensive hop fields and orchards via Dieglishofen , partly parallel to the Lake Constance District Jubilee Trail , into the center of Tettnang to the Kronenbrauerei . Under the motto “from farmer to brewer”, hikers and cyclists are initiated into the secrets and peculiarities of hop growing and beer brewing through information boards set up along the way . Special information boards have been installed for children: Humulus and Lupulus , two hop cones , keep the little ones entertaining along the way.

Kronenbrauerei

The Kronen Brewery is a small, artisanal brewery that has been in the family for seven generations . It is the last of the former 26 breweries in the Tettnang hop-growing region.
