history
The diocese of Bom Jesus da Lapa was founded on July 22nd, 1962 by Pope John XXIII. Erected from cessions of territory by the Diocese of Barra and subordinated to the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia as a suffragan . On January 16, 2002, the diocese Bom Jesus da Lapa was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Vitória da Conquista as a suffragan.
