Geraldo Majela de Castro

Geraldo Majela de Castro OPraem (born June 24, 1930 in Montes Claros ; † May 14, 2015 ) was a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Montes Claros .

Life

Geraldo Majela de Castro joined the religious order of the Premonstratensians at and received on 8 December 1953, the priestly ordination .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Montes Claros on June 15, 1982 . The Bishop of Montes Claros, José Alves de Sà Trindade , donated him episcopal ordination on September 8th of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Serafím Fernandes de Araújo , auxiliary bishop in Belo Horizonte , and Norbert Calmels OPraem, diplomat of the Holy See in Morocco .

With José Alves de Sà Trindade's retirement on June 1, 1988, he succeeded him as Bishop of Montes Claros. The Pope elevated the diocese to an archbishopric on April 25, 2001, making him the first archbishop of Montes Claros. On February 7, 2007, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
