The Diocese of Paracatu ( Latin Dioecesis Paracatuensis , Portuguese Diocese de Paracatu ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic diocese based in Paracatu in the state of Minas Gerais . It covers the northwestern part of the state.

history

Pope Pius XI founded the territorial prelature Paracatu on March 1, 1929 with the Apostolic Constitution Pro munere sibi divinitus from ceding territories of the dioceses of Montes Claros and Uberaba and was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Diamantina as a suffragan . It lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Januária diocese .

With the Bull Navis gubernationis she was raised to a diocese on April 14, 1962 and became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Uberaba . On October 11, 1966 it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Brasília and on April 25, 2001 of the Archdiocese of Montes Claros .
