Aldo de Cillo Pagotto

Aldo de Cillo Pagotto SSS (born September 16, 1949 in São Paulo , † April 14, 2020 in Fortaleza ) was a Brazilian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Paraíba .

Life

Aldo de Cillo Pagotto studied philosophy and theology at the diocesan seminary of Nossa Senhora do Rosário in Caratinga (Minas Gerais) and at his seminary in São Pio X. He was ordained a priest on December 7th, 1977 , joined the religious community of the Eucharist and on December 8th he was ordained a priest . December 1985 professed . From 1988 to 1991 he studied philosophy and dogmatic theology at the Gregorian in Rome.

Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop of Sobral on September 10, 1997 . As a motto he chose UNUM CORPUS ET UNUS SPIRITUS . The Archbishop of São Paulo , Cláudio Hummes OFM , donated him episcopal ordination on October 31 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Walfrido Teixeira Vieira , Bishop of Sobral, and Joviano de Lima Júnior SSS, Bishop of São Carlos . When Walfrido Teixeira Vieiras retired , he succeeded him on March 18, 1998 in the office of Bishop of Sobral. On May 5, 2004 he was appointed Archbishop of Paraíba .

Pope Francis accepted his health-related resignation on July 6, 2016. Aldo de Cillo Pagotto had been fighting cancer since 2017 and died in April 2020 in the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil at the Hospital da Unimed in the São João do Tauape district in Fortaleza.
