Jon Eberson (born January 6, 1953 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian jazz guitarist.

Live and act

The son of jazz guitarist Leif Eberson has been working as a professional musician since he was eighteen. He gained his first experience with the quartet of saxophonist Vidar Johansen . After appearances with various jazz rock groups, he worked with Svein Finnerud in 1972 , made his first recordings with Ketil Bjørnstad the following year and performed with his first own quartet in the same year.

After 1973 he worked a. a. with Magni Wentzel , the jazz rock group Moose Loose (1973-1977) and the Radka Toneff Quintet (1975-1980) and recorded with Ketil Bjørnstad , Knut Værnes and Pål Thowsen . 1978-1979 he led a quartet with Jon Balke .

From 1980 to 1981 Eberson led his own jazz quartet, then the Jon Eberson Group (from 1987 Jon Eberson / Sidsel Endresen Group ), with which he recorded several albums. The album Jive Talking received the Spellemann Prize in 1981 . He also played in Oslo Rhythm & Blues Ensemble and the Jazz Punk Ensemble , a trio formation with Bjørn Kjellemyr and Svein Christiansen and the Soul Band Chipahua , joined with Pål Thowsen and Arild Andersen and looked at the performance of Per Husbys Jazz Suite Notes for Nature with .

1986 the album Stash was created by Odin in a trio with Bjørn Kjellemyr and Audun Kleive ; from the following year he led his own trio with Kjellemyr and Paolo Vinaccia . From 1987 he played in a quartet with Morten Halle , Bjørn Kjellemyr and Finn Sletten or Pål Thowsen, with whom several albums were created.

With Audun Kleive he recorded the album Music for Men and Machines from 1991-1992 . From 1992 he played in the trio EAT (since 1996 The Net ) with Tom Erik Antonsen and Pål Thowsen. With Torbjørn Sunde he played songs by Chet Baker , with Morten Halle and Beate Slettevold Lech he recorded the album Metropolitan ; further albums were created with Terje Gewelt and Svein Finnerud .

2000 the album Dreams That Went Away was created with the Jon Eberson Group ; In 2001 Eberson recorded the albums Jazz For Men (in a duo with Carl Morten Iversen ) and Mind the Gap (in a trio with Bjørnar Andresen and Paal Nilssen-Love ).

Prizes and awards

Eberson received a Spellemann Prize in 1981 in the Rock category together with Sidsel Endresen, with whom he received another Spellemann Prize in 1984. In 2001 he was awarded the Buddy Prize.
