history

The parish of Seewalchen am Attersee was a settlement in Roman times . It is possible that the Christian faith was represented there as early as the 3rd to 4th centuries AD .

The patronage of James the Elder suggests that a church was consecrated as early as the 9th or 10th century. 1135, the parish church was first mentioned in the St. James: In the year Bishop exchanged Reginbert of Passau with the Benedictine monks of the monastery Michaelbeuern the tithes this parish Sewalhin against two farms in German Bach at the Pielach . Pope Gregory IX In 1232 the abbey confirmed the ownership of this parish . In 1427 a church was consecrated in Seewalchen.

From 1439 to 1486 a new Gothic parish church was built, which was consecrated in 1476. In 1727 the church underwent a thorough renovation. In 1852 an extension was added between the south portal, vestibule and sacristy. In 1862 the spire and tower cross were renovated. In 1885 the parish church was restored in the neo-Gothic style. In 1899 the spire was renovated and replaced by a new four meter high pyramid.

In 1913, portraits of the twelve apostles were attached to the gallery . In the course of the war in 1944, the copper roof of the tower was removed and replaced by sheet iron . In 1954 the interior was restored, with two side altars (St. Scholastica and St. Benedict ) being purchased.

As early as 1970, the first plans for a reconstruction of the church were started under Pastor König. As a first step, the exterior facade was renovated in 1976.

In 1993 an architectural competition was carried out to expand the church. From 1998 to 2000 the parish church Seewalchen was expanded, rebuilt and completely renovated. On July 22, 2001, the consecration took place with a tower cross.

In 2012 the church received a new organ with 26 registers, which Orgelbau Pirchner manufactured in 2012 and which was consecrated on June 16, 2013.
