Rolf Lislevand

Rolf Lislevand (born December 30, 1961 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian lutenist and guitarist.

biography

Rolf Lislevand began studying classical guitar at the Oslo State University of Music in 1980 . He then continued his studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis , which he graduated in 1987. The subjects of study were historical performance practice , the lute , five-course baroque guitar and theorbo with Eugen Dombois and Hopkinson Smith .

Lislevand settled in Verona and founded the “Ensemble Kapsberger” there. He dedicated his first CD recording entirely to the Italian music of the early baroque by Johann Hieronymus Kapsberger , which earned him the Diapason d'or of 1994 and the Choc du monde de la musique in France . Since then, other recordings have followed under the title " Encuentro " with works by Gaspar Sanz and Antonio de Santa Cruz , " Santiago De Murcia Codex " and " Alfabeto ".

He often works with various early music ensembles, including Jordi Savall and his Hespèrion XXI or the “Le Concert des Nations”. With his own formations he is a regular guest at international early music festivals such as the Edinburgh Festival, the “Festival Musica Antiqua” in Bruges or the “Festival Oude Muziek” in Utrecht. He is now one of the most famous interpreters of Spanish Renaissance music and music from the late Middle Ages, including at the Vihuela .

In 1993 Rolf Lislevand received a teaching position for lute and historical performance practice at the State University of Music in Trossingen . His students there included Maria Ferré and Mirko Arnone, two later members of the chamber music ensemble L'Art du Bois .
