Bjørn Alterhaug (born June 3, 1945 in Mo i Rana ) is a Norwegian jazz musician ( double bass , composition ).

Live and act

Alterhaug studied music from 1966 at the University of Trondheim. He soon accompanied jazz greats such as Joe Henderson , Lee Konitz , Chet Baker , Dexter Gordon , Lucky Thompson and Ben Webster on their guest appearances in Norway and was awarded the Buddy Prize in 1975 .

Since 1970 he has also been active as a composer. His more than 150 compositions include pieces for jazz big band, Norwegian folk music and modern chamber music. He was the festival composer at the 25th Festival of Northern Norway. He also worked as a music professor at the University of Trondheim until his retirement in 2012 .

Alterhaug released five albums under his own name as a band leader: Moments (1979), A Ballad (1986), Constellations (with Odin , 1991), Songlines (2009) and Innocent Play (2014). He was awarded the Spellemann Prize in 1980 for the album Moments . As a sideman he worked a. a. with Asmund Bjørken , Thorgeir Stubø , Ivar Antonsen , Tore Johansen , John Pål Inderberg , Hilde Hefte , Hallgeir Pedersen , Warne Marsh , Bjørn Johansen , Egil Kapstad , Bodil Niska , Siri Svale , Chet Baker , Karin Krog and Terje Bjørklund .
