Ole Jacob Hansen

Ole Jacob Hansen (* 16th April 1940 in Oslo , † 6. March 2000 ) was a Norwegian drummer of Modern Jazz , who held a central role in the Norwegian jazz scene.

Live and act

Hansen became a member of the Tore Sandnæs Big Band in 1958 . In the next few years he worked in the Mikkel Flagstad Quintet (1959), Bjørn Jacobsen Septet (1958–60), Arild Wikstrøm Quartet (1961), with Bjørn Johansen and in various bands by Kjell Karlsen (1959–1964); with him he visited Moldejazz for the first time in 1962 . In Oslo's Metropol Jazz Club he also played with traveling soloists such as Lars Werner and Benny Bailey (1961), Lucky Thompson , Bud Powell and Don Byas (1962), Coleman Hawkins , Don Ellis and Dexter Gordon (1963).

He then worked in Stockholm with the Bernt Rosengren Orchestra (1963–64) and with Idrees Sulieman (1964). Then he performed in Paris with Eric Dolphy and Donald Byrd . Back in Oslo he worked with Ditlef Eckhoff and again with Bjørn Johansen and Arild Wikstrøm. During the 1970s he contributed to albums by Ditlef Eckhoff, Paul Weeden and Terje Bjørklund ; with the rock jazz band Adonis he performed several times at Club 7 . In 1978 he worked on the jazz and lyric production Till Jorden by Rolf Jacobsen and Egil Kapstad . In 1980 he founded the Jazz Alive club in Oslo, which he ran until 1986, and accompanied Thorgeir Stubø , Lee Konitz , Doug Raney , Laila Dalseth , Jan Erik Vold , Harald Gundhus , Knut Riisnæs , Totti Bergh and Einar Iversen . In 1988 he led a big band together with Harald Gundhus. Tom Lord records 64 recordings by Hansen between 1954 and 1998; he was also involved in albums by Kevin Dean and Rolf Søder .

Honourings and prices

Hansen received the Reenskaug Prize in 1982. In 1997 he was awarded the Buddy Prize; In 1996 he was awarded the Gammleng Prize in the jazz class.
