Doug Raney
Doug Raney (* 29. August 1956 ; † 1. May 2016 ) was an American jazz - guitarist of modern jazz .
Live and act
Doug Raney was the son of jazz guitarist Jimmy Raney . In his band, to which the pianist Al Haig also belonged, he began his career as a musician at the age of 18. In 1977 Raney moved to Copenhagen and lived there for much of his life. Doug later also played in a duo with his father, heard on their albums for the SteepleChase label such as "Duets", "Stolen Moments" and "Nardis" from 1979. In the same year he worked on Chet Baker's albums "The Touch of Your" Lips "," Daybreak "," This is Always "and" Someday My Prince Will Come "with.
From 1977 Doug Raney recorded a number of albums as the leader of his own formations, in which musicians such as Kenny Barron , Joey DeFrancesco , Billy Hart , Duke Jordan , Jesper Lundgaard , Horace Parlan , Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen , Tomas Franck and others participated. Raney received the Ben Webster Prize in 1988 ; In 2002 he was awarded the Palæ Bars Jazzpris .
