Joe Cohn

Joe Cohn (born December 28, 1956 in Flushing , Queens , New York ) is an American jazz guitarist .

Musical career

Cohn is the son of jazz saxophonist Al Cohn . He studied with his father and Allen Hanlon ; musically he was influenced by Dave McKenna and Thad Jones . After high school, he studied at Berklee College of Music . Cohn is also a talented pianist and bass player . He played in the Artie Shaw Orchestra for six years and was very active in the New York music scene. There he played at Lincoln Center with Hank Jones and Wynton Marsalis . Doug Raney also played on his debut album Two funky people .

Cohn also participated in recordings of Totti Bergh ( Remember , 1995), Al Cohn ( Overtones , 1982), Buddy DeFranco ( Mr Lucky , 1982), Al Gray ( Mean N'Jack , 1992), Frank Wess ( Surprise, Surprise! ; 1993), Bob Dorough ( Too Much Coffee Man , 2000), Lew Del Gatto ( Kate Walk ; 2000), Grant Stewart ( Tenor And Soul , 2005), Ray Kennedy , Harry Allen and Peter Beets ( New Groove , 2007) with.
