Joost van Schaik

Joost van Schaik (* 1974 in Zwolle , Overijssel ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( drums ) who currently works mainly in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Live and act

Schaik began to drum at the age of six; from the age of ten he received lessons. At the age of twelve he played in his father's band Dixieland . In the next few years he began to be increasingly interested in modern jazz . At the age of 16 he completed the preparatory year at the Zwolle Conservatory; he received lessons from John Engels , Henk Zomer and Han Bennink . At the age of 18 he began his studies at the Conservatorium Hilversum , where Marcel Serierse and Cees Kranenburg trained him. In 1995 he moved to New York, where he was tutored by Jeff Tain Watts , Carl Allen and Gregory Hutchinson .

Schaik is a member of the Toon Roos Quartet, the combos of Philip Catherine , Benjamin Herman , Jurai Stanik, Sjoerd Dijkhuizen- Martijn van Iterson and the Amsterdam Jazz Quintet . He also worked with Nathalie Loriers and Curtis Fuller , James Moody , Toots Thielemans , Lew Tabackin , Jasper Blom , Karel Boehlee , Eef Albers , Jarmo Hoogendijk , Rein de Graaff and Bert Joris . He can also be heard on albums by Nico Bunink , Joe Cohn , Frank Roberscheuten , Sanne van Hek , Ivan Paduart , the Glenn Miller Orchestra by Wil Salden , Philip Catherine / Brussels Jazz Orchestra , Jan Menu and Jesse van Ruller .
