Jarmo Hoogendijk

Jarmo Hoogendijk (born March 28, 1965 in The Hague ) is a Dutch modern jazz trumpeter .

Hoogendijk studied with Art Farmer at the Conservatory in his hometown and took private lessons with Woody Shaw . Together with Ben van den Dungen he founded a hardbop- oriented quintet in 1984 , with which he gained attention at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 1986 and recorded several albums in the following years. He has also worked with Art Taylor , Charles McPherson , JJ Johnson , Ron Matthews , Frank Foster and Jimmy Heath , with whom he has appeared at numerous European festivals. He also played Latin jazz with “Nueva Manteca” . Ali Haurand presented him in the "European Jazz Ensemble" and in the "European Trumpet Summit" (CD "Live", 1994). In 2001 Hoogendijk presented his new quintet with Ben van den Dungen. He also played with Rita Reys , Luluk Purwanto , Amina Figarova , the quintet by Wolfert Brederode / Eric Ineke and the trio by Rein de Graaff .

Since 1990 he has taught at the Conservatories of Rotterdam and The Hague. Due to a defective mouthpiece, he sustained a lip injury in 2004 that has prevented him from playing since then.
