Ben van den Dungen

Ben van den Dungen (born October 29, 1960 in The Hague ) is a Dutch jazz musician ( soprano and tenor saxophone ).

Career

Van den Dungen graduated from the Koninklijk Conservatorium The Hague in 1988 . As early as 1983 he played Latin Jazz in the group Nueva Manteca, of which he still belongs to this day. Together with Jarmo Hoogendijk , he founded a joint quintet in 1984, which successfully toured Europe between 1985 and 2004 and released several albums. He also played in Louis van Dijk's super band , but soon began to take an increasing interest in world music and studied in Cuba , Colombia and India . In addition to his own quartet ( Ciao City , 2013), he also played in groups such as Fra Fra Sound and Tango Extremo.

He taught saxophone and ensemble playing at the Rotterdam Conservatory and other conservatories in the Netherlands.

Prizes and awards

The Ben van den Dungen / Jarmo Hoogendijk Quintet was awarded the NOS Meervaart Jazzprijs in 1985. In 1987 it received the Nicolai Award.
