Karel Boehlee

Karel Boehlee (born April 23, 1960 in Leiden ) is a Dutch jazz musician (piano, composition) who is particularly successful in Japan.

Boehlee and his trio presented his debut album in 1984. He then formed the European Jazz Trio with bassist Frans van der Hoeven and drummer Roy Dackus . His first records, which were made between 1988 and 1992, were an immediate success, especially in Japan. He has played as a pianist with Toon Roos for 35 years and often accompanied Toots Thielemans as well as Philip Catherine , Jesse van Ruller , Fay Claassen and Peter Tiehuis . He is also in demand as a session musician with pop artists such as Gino Vannelli and Trijntje Oosterhuis . Boehlee appears regularly as a solo artist in Japan and Korea.

Boehlee is a senior lecturer at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam . In 2013 he received the Arena Jazz Award for the best accompanist.
