Chiletso Chipanga

Chiletso Chipanga (born 1987 in Zomba ) is a Malawian chess player . Since 2010 he has held the FIDE title of Candidate Masters (CM).

Chipanga learned the game of chess from his brother at the age of 11. In 2006 and 2007 he won the national youth championship. With the Malawian national team , he took part in six chess Olympiads between 2006 and 2018 and scored 24 points from a total of 61 games. He received the CM title for his result at the 2008 Chess Olympiad in Dresden .

In January 2018 he won the national qualifying tournament for the 2018 Chess Olympiad with 7.5 points from 9 games. In March 2018 he won the African Amateur Championship for players under 2300 Elo in Livingstone . With 8 points from 9 games, he won thanks to a better score in front of Leslie Chikuse from Zambia with the same number of points and received prize money of 1000 US dollars. At the Amateur World Championship in Quartu Sant'Elena in April 2018 , he finished 6th with 6 points from 9 games.

His Elo number is 2116 (as of October 2018), which puts him in second place in the Malawian Elo ranking. His highest rating was 2138 in January 2009. This rating he had received after the 2008 Chess Olympiad and it was his first.
